JLPT N5 is the entry level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Its vocabulary covers the essentials of daily life: greetings, numbers, days and times, family, food, common places, and the most frequent verbs and adjectives (to go, to eat, to see, big, new, good). If you can read hiragana and katakana and you know these words, you can handle simple self-introductions, shopping, and basic directions.
