Basic katakana

The 46 core characters, in gojūon order. Numbers show the order of each stroke, and each number sits where that stroke starts.

Dakuten and handakuten

The voiced forms are written exactly like their base character, with the two ticks (dakuten) or the small circle (handakuten) added at the top right as the final strokes.

Contracted sounds (yōon)

Each contracted sound is two characters: the full-size base and a small ャ, ュ or ョ written in the lower half of the next square, about half the size.
